Ground Hog Day. Kicking the can. The two phrases that we hear over and over in describing the lack of leadership in both business and politics.

One of the reasons behind the “kick the can” theory is to give each side more time to come to an agreement. That’s what shipping insiders are hoping with the longshoremen negotiations.

Shipping insiders tell me they hope leadership will prevail and compromise will be made and a deal will be formally agreed upon before the February sixth deadline. If you missed any of my reports you can check them out here.

But in many cases, the can is kicked because no decision can be made. The kicking of the can we are seeing right now in Washington according to my sources is a result of the lack of political will to make the tough choices. Over the course of the next eight weeks…
